His Golden Eyes :: vampires and their sparkles

ok, so the vampires cant go out into the sun because they sparkle (lol, i love that Very Happy

)
BUT
later on, it mentions their skin reacting funny to different lights (like just after the meadow, it says something about edward's skin throwing ruby-tinged sparkles or summat, and in eclipse at the party, alice's did funny stuff...)
so my thoughts are, if their skin is basically reflective, why dont they just sparkle in any light at all?

im probably either missing something really obvious here, or just thinking way way too much, but this bugs me :)
your thoughts?

they twinkle because their cells are make up of a crystaly make-up. as for why they shine in the sun. This allows their skin to be uberly hard, and they have a liquid that runs between the cells. this liquid happens to make their movements so fast. (liquid is also very flammable)

It doesnt say it anywhere specifically, just little details here and there. Like I said, Bella mentions something in Eclipse at Alice's graduation party about her skin reacting strangely to the light (can't remember what exactly she said), and a couple of other points.

Well sunlight is diffrenet than any other light, it's stronger... To be honest I don't have any idea :'D Good question

Does it say that their skin reflects the light?

My interpretation was that the sparkling was the skin reacting with the light, rather than reflecting it, and that when Alice mentions the skin reacting funny in the disco lights (not sparkling), I assumed it was to do with how pale their skin was, so maybe like how white acts in ultra violet light.

However, have not completely thought this through, as if their skin reacted like this in the disco lights, they would need to hide it to avoid suspicion...hmm...

I think that they were saying Alice's skin looked different under the disco light cuz she was so pale!! I look really werid under disco and black lights.. I am very fair.. so I could just imagine what they would look like! Very Happy

i think because their skin is like perfect and they have such good bone structure thats sort of to do with the 'reacting to light' bit
because if you think about it skin has natural luminosity and because theirs is perfect it would.. 'glow' anyway
plus their bone structure would make strange shadows across their faces and stuff..
it specifically says they can't go out in 'sunlight' so i presume artificial light is not as intense and so their skin does not react the same

I LOVE THE DIAMONDS IN THE SKIN THINGY! thats so smart! that would explain their strength in the skin department and stuff :)
