I haven't read the Phantom book.
I've read the Wicked novel though. It's really good, but so incredibly different to the stage production.

Yeah, I hate West Side Story, too...maybe cuz of the Romeo/Juliet thing. Gag me.

I read Phantom and Wicked, but I wasn't enthralled. The shows are much better in my opinion.

I think, with Wicked at least, the novel itself wouldn't really make good viewing on stage. It would be hard to pull off.
And as for the show, it wouldn't be as good as a book.
So, yeah.
But definitely, the show is waaaay better.
Maybe that's just because I'm used to it, having seen it before reading the novel.

Crying or Very sad :(

I looooove West Side Story.

But I did actually do the show, and I think I'm so attached to it on that level. It's a very significant part of my life, so I guess I love watching it because it reminds me of that time and how happy I was.
We had fun :)

Yeah, I know how that is. Last year, we did The Wiz and I played the Scarecrow and five weeks before opening night, our director (a new choir teacher who hated us all) went on a "leave of absence for medical reasons" (it was bogus) so my senior musical was run by me, my friend who played Dorothy, and the student stage manager. We had to pull everything together in 5 weeks with a very unenthusiastic cast, but it happened. Needless to say, I'm rather attached to the show now even though it's not that good. The movie version particularly sucks (although Michael Jackson is stellar in it as the Scarecrow...back when he was cool and good at dancing and not a child-molestor).

haha
It all started with Michael when he set his head on fire in that Pepsi commercial. I understand if that caused some damage.
Anyways....
Who were you in WSS sweet_tangerine?

I know it's terrible because he was injured and all, but I just find that so hilariously funny. :]
But the guy knows how to make good music.

I played Anita.

So. Much. Fun.

The spring musical is Little Women.
I'm glad I wasn't teching this year.
The fall play was A Flea In Her Ear.
I think.
That wasn't a musical, I don't think.
I know LAST YEAR'S fall play was a musical.
They got to do Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
I chose not to see it.
Like the actual film.
Apparently, the school's version was a hell of a lot better.

Not many musicals I can actually watch but there are a few exceptions:
1. Disney movies
2. Marry Poppins { Still a disney movie in my eyes...}
3. The Sound of Music { Dont ask why. I just do...}

Ohhh you should do it!

Maybe I'm just a sucker for stories like that; I sob every time. At the end when Maria goes into hysterics, waving the gun around...
Ahhh I love it :]

One of the school's in my city did Sweeney Todd last year. My friend was Johanna. It was absolutely OUTSTANDING. You don't happen to live in Tucson by any chance? Haha...
